Its hard work moving out...

The whole Atria Shopping Centre have been buzzing with noise lately. The noise of hammering and bashing, the noise of shouting and whistling, the noise made by over-loaded trolleys screaming 'eeee, eeee, eeeeee' at every push, the reversing 'ti, ti, ti' signal of lorries, the never-ending stream of workers, the jam packed loading bay, the hustle and bustle that goes quieter and softer as more and more leaves...

Gosh... time really flies and before I realized it, its time to move...  Part of me feels sad, part of me feel so release... Part me me feel happy, part of me fear the change...  I can't really describe how it really feels. Anyway, its been 2 days since we started. Most of our goods have been packed. Now we are left with the shelves, lights, fittings, carpets, etc... to be removed...

Its sad... to see a building that have given so much, slowly diminishing before my eyes...

Car Mutiny

Why does bad stuff happens at the wrong time?

Jess was getting married today. As I was leaving school in Cheras to go for the the church service @ Old Klang Road, firstly, my car air-con died on me. It was a Saturday afternoon and temperature outside was maybe 34°C. Secondly, I think my car mutinized (if there is such a word) against me...my windows couldn't wind down. Imagine me all dressed-up, make-up, with no air-con, seating in my hot car, getting stuck in traffic jam. It was a self-made, man-made, car-made sauna. I was sweating literally buckets of water. Beside me there was a growing pile of tissue-soaked sweat. *gross* I kept thinking "drive faster drive faster... stupid car... stupid jam... " And guess what my car must have heard me scolding her  decided to heat up. the needle kept going up and up.... Gosh!!! 3 in a row....

As I was already late, I just prayed that I will reach safely. And I did.... The minute I found a parking, the needle was almost reaching red.... I parked, switched of the engine and ran out the car... Blessed cool air and Thank You God!!!!

Its like one of the worst car experience that had happened to me. Thank God for my daddy, who was also there at the wedding, who saved my car later on. Thank You Dad!!! :)

Anyway, if you have some money to blow, drop by Atria Shopping Centre. Guardian sale is on now till the 3rd July 2011 @ the Concourse Area.

A visit with the Orang Utans

When I was in Kuching, I wanted to visit so many places but could not due to the fact that:

1. I was travelling alone
2. Most places requires a tour guide
3. Most tour company will not provide a tour guide for a single traveller
4. The cost of transportation on my own will cost me a bomb

So, I was lucky that on my first day there, I chance upon a tour company hidden inside the Old Court House. At first, they could not arrange a tour guide for me but within an hour they called me back with a opportunity to partner with this Hong Kong guy who was also travelling alone. I grabbed the chance and within 2 hours, I was happily on my way to the first destination. Woohoo!!!

Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is located 40km south of Kuching and is situated within the beautiful Semengoh Nature Reserve. It was established in 1975 for the rehabilitation of confiscated and surrendered wild animals. Eventhought they have cared for 1,000 over endangered mammals, birds and reptiles, it is more well-known for its orang utans rehabilitation centre.

I arrived just in time for their feeding session @ 3pm. There are 2 session, one @ 9am and the other at 3pm. As the orang utans are semi-wild, we are not allowed to go near them. Only the rangers are allowed to feed them.

Shhh... must be quiet. See more rules & regulations here..

This is 26-years-old 'Delima' also known as 'Hot Mama' as she have attacked quite a number of visitors before; coming for her food. She is carrying her youngest daughter, 2-years-old Induk.

A ranger giving her some food.

Delima and Induk eating.

Closer view of baby Induk.

This is 7-years-old Selina, also Delima's daughter.

This is 30-years-old Seduku. If you got sharp eyes, you can see that she is carrying her youngest daughter, 1-year old Kok.

Since they are so far away, lets go back to Delima, Selina and Induk. Orang utans are very entertaining creatures and I am just so amazed by their agility and ability to multi-task.. :)

Awww... So sweet. You can feel the mother-daughter bond.

Hot Mama aka Delima on the move. Better watch out people. She bites *rawww*

I was lucky on that day. The alpha male/ dominant male, Ritchie came out to play... (and eat). He seldom comes out and to be able to catch him on my first visit there was amazing :)

He is HUGE!!!!

That is Lela, I think... In front of Ritchie. See, Ritchie is much bigger then her.

My tour guide also took us to visit the Information Centre where there were lots of information about orang utans and rehabilitating them. Did you know that male orang utans are twice (2) the size of a female orang utan?

There is also a board listing all the orang utans at the centre.

Besides orang utan there were various animals available there. As my camera was low on battery, I only took picture of the crocodile... Cos is one-big-ass crocodile.. Probable the largest I have seen in real-life...

And probably the closest I will ever get to one..

Before we leave, here's a picture of me...

And one of Ritchie....

If you are ever in Sarawak, do visit these orang utans. Your trip will not be complete without seeing them.. Just remember to :

1. Wear long sleeves and pants. You don't want to feed the mosquitoes.
2. Make sure your camera have enough batteries
3. Don't go during fruiting session. If you do, you will only be watching yourself :)

You don't want this to happen to you

I'm back.. Didn't update as earlier as I was zombie-ish for the last couple of days...

It started when my twinnie & I got food poisoning on the last day of our trip to Bandung... She started first @ 4am with vomiting, followed by me having diarrhea. And then it was us taking turns to use the toilet...One in, one out. Can't really remember much of that day. All I can roughly recall is nausea, giddiness, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, feeling week, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, diarrhea, feeling week, nausea, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, giddiness, nausea, giddiness, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, feeling week, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, diarrhea, feeling week, nausea, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, giddiness, nausea, giddiness, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, feeling week, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, diarrhea, feeling week, nausea, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, giddiness, nausea, giddiness, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, feeling week, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, diarrhea, feeling week, nausea, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, giddiness, nausea, giddiness, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, feeling week, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, diarrhea, feeling week, nausea, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, nausea, nausea, giddiness, nausea, nausea, nausea... and it when on and on till night.. Throw in a few almost black-outs and some sleeping time. That was it for the whole day

The in between ? We left the villa around 9am +, got into the van, when to 'Kartika Sari', stay there till it was time to go to the airport @ 12noon, caught our flight back @ 3.45pm, reached LCCT @ 7pm, took a van home, reach home @ 8.45+.

Totally wasted a day of spending my last few rupiahs and buying some much-needed souvenirs back home... The whole day, I felt exactly how I felt when I had food poisoning @ leadership camp when I was 14 years old and was admitted to the hospital... I can't even remember how many public toilet bowls I hugged *absolutely gross* or how painful my asshole anus was...I had to hold on to the toilet walls to force myself to focus and not to 'pengsan' which I almost did... And I can tell you, its no joke to be having food poisoning on a plane.. My head was stuck in a bag the whole time. I even had thoughts that it would be better to just die... Seriously...

But it didn't stop there. The next day, I had to dragged myself to work as we did promise customers that we will be opening our shop and there were a couple of calls early in the morning asking me if we were open. It wasn't as bad as the previous day but I was feeling really tired and exhausted...

and it lasted all thru the weekend... not really sure why... I couldn't function properly... And i think cos my body is weaken, i felt myself falling sick... having sore throat and stuff..

Anyway, this morning, i woke up feeling much better... so here's to better days ahead... got to focus back on my work already...

till then....

Taking the Kuching Heritage Walk

I wanted to blog last night but stupid Unifi kept having network problem that I couldn’t get a steady connection. And it also made me miss the last 10mins of the final episode of a series I have been following… arrghhhhh!!! Now I got to look for other alternative just to know what happen at the end of the story :(

Anyway, I’ve been neglecting my travel posts for so long. Its like before I can finish blogging and recording them down, I am on my way to another trip. So here’s what I left off, my trip to Melbourne in February and Sibu & Kuching in April.

Let’s just continue with Kuching. Read my post here, here, here, here and here..

Early on my 1st morning in Kuching, Jon, an old university mate called me up for breakfast. He wanted to take me to try out the Kolo Mee along  Carpenters Street. The 1st store that we went were well-known for its noodles but service wasn't good. It was 7.30am but they refused to serve us. Almost all the table were full and this is the 1st time I see customers waiting patiently for the 2 old cooks to prepare the noodles. I guess they were really good that people don’t mind waiting. That's Jon sitting at the table. See, we even have to share table with an old man.

Sadly, my friend couldn’t wait as he had to get to work so we walked a short distance away to another place which serves almost equally as good Kolok noodles. Food was delicious. Tasty and satisfiying. How come KL ones does not taste as good?

My Tea C Special

After breakfast, he left for work and I decided to walk around instead of heading back to the hotel. As it was still early and most business only open at 9am, I decided to take the Kuching Heritage Walk as shown on the map.

Here's my journey. Started at the Kuching Waterfront.

Rows of shops standing sleepily along Bazaar Street, slowly awakening to a brand new day.

Raising sun of the Great Rejang River

Peaceful and calm.

Work starts early.

Dewan Undangan Sarawak (DUN)

Astana.

A gift given by White Rajah, Charles Brooke to his wife, Margeret Alice.

River starts waking up.

Square Tower.

Its like a prison + detention place kinda thing. It wasn't open so I couldn't see inside.

A different life just across the river.

Passing time.

Charles Brooke's Memorial & The Old Court House

Carpenter's Street

Textile Museum.

Went in for a peak. They have 4 stories showing different kind of textiles, fashion, material and craftsmanship. Its quite scary walking alone as there were mannequins sitting or standing quietly, looking really realistic. I will never know when one will jump up and stab me from the back or something.. Haha. Guess I watch to many horror movies.

General Pos office.

Looks really old outside but take a peak inside and you'll discover a bustling nosiy normal Pos Office.

St. Thomas Cathedral.

Cross @ St. Thomas Cathedral

Inside St. Thomas Cathedral.

Merdeka Field.

Took a break @ the Food Court on Capenter’s Street just opposite the Huang Thian Siang Temple … Wanted to try the famous kuih but it wasn't open as it was to early. Had a honey kind of drink. Really refreshing on such a hot day.

Hong San Si Temple

View from further up the Rejang River.

Their main mode of transportation along the river.
I think someone told me it cost RM1 for a ride.

Kuching statue.

Top Spot Kuching Seafood, well-known for its seafood.

This walk took me about 3 hours just walking and snapping pictures.. oh, and I did some shopping too :) Was worth it cos it gave me the opportunity to see and understand Kuching better. Would love to go back as I did not mange to complete the whole thing. And found out much later that the Kuching Museum is a must-see. :(

Kuching its such a queer place. Its modern-ish yet maintains its old town charm, with new high rise buildings just across a riverside kampung. Vast differences yet peacefully co-existing.

Can someone explain what this means? Is my Malay that bad or are is this worst?
